While livestreaming with one external webcam or even the built in webcam of your macbook works, the quality of the registration can be tuned up quite a bit by using multiple camera’s. Below I explain how you can do it without spending hundreds of euros.

O, and this is how it could turn out:

What you need:

  • Macbook (I bet you have one all-ready)
  • Multiple hd webcams (I use Logitech c270, 25 euros a piece)
  • An USB hub with enough ports (around 20 euro)
  • USB elongating cables (15 euros a piece for 15 meters)
  • Cheap microphone tripods (20 euros a piece)
  • Camtwist mixing software (free)
  • Ustream account (free with ads)

What you need to do

  1. Attach the webcams to the tripods with some tape
  2. Attach the webcams with the elongating cables to the usb hub.
  3. Atach the usb hub to your Macbook
  4. Install Camtwist and restart your Macbook
  5. Start Camtwist and choose Studio from the tool menu
  6. Click add button
  7. Click add element, choose webcam
  8. Choose one of your attached webcams from the list
  9. Repeat last three steps for all of your webcams
  10. Hit save next to all of your webcams
  11. In Firefox or Chrome, go to ustream.tv. Login and hit Go live.
  12. Choose Camtwist as videosource and anything as your audiosource*
  13. Hit start broadcast and start your live show!
  14. Click om the webcambuttons in Camtwist and hit dissolve to change cameras. That’s it!
Tips:
  • In camtwist, give your webcams meaningfull names, like ‘table left’, ‘band’, ‘overview’.
  • Think of where you put your cams. Up close and on eye level is better than far away and high,
  • Check the light. If the light is bad, move around some lamps.
  • Some webcams support (digital) zooming. Eventually you’ll want some of those. Analogue zooming is better than digital. Check how the digital zooming is done. It’s not possible to do it from Camtwist.
  • Make sure your flash plugins are up to date. Run mac software update and update everything if something doesn’t work. If that doesn;t help, restart.
  • * The audio is all important. Use a good mixer and some good microphones and feed them into your Macbook. Don’t forget to set audio line to in, in your system settings

Combinatie van instrumenten en electronica zonder de harmonie te verliezen, net als Piano Magic. Het altijd rustige Belgische publiek was nu wel heel erg rustig. Wanneer Guido en Robert de neige zijn die een beetje swingen moet er iets aan de hand zijn. Roken ze, zo dicht bij de grens, misschien Nederlandse skunk? Live regeistartie is overigens, dankzij Guido, voorhanden (met ellenlange Guido-Robert dialoog).
